Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has come down hard on those behind the extrajudicial killing of a youth in Effurun, declaring that every officer implicated in the incident must face the full weight of the law. The governor condemned in the strongest terms the killing of Mena Otidi by a police officer, ASP Nuhu Usman, describing the act as unwarranted, unprovoked, barbaric, and a grave violation of the sanctity of human life. In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, Oborevwori expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and extended heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family, stressing that no citizen should be subjected to such brutality and that the protection of lives remains paramount under his administration.

Oborevwori, however, welcomed the swift response of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the approval for the dismissal and prosecution of officers found culpable, describing it as a strong signal of accountability and a step towards restoring public confidence. He insisted that all officers seen in the widely circulated video must be thoroughly investigated and brought to justice, emphasising that justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done. The governor assured the bereaved family of the state government’s full support in pursuing the matter and pledged that Delta State would follow the case to its logical conclusion, leaving no stone unturned in ensuring accountability while urging residents to remain calm and law-abiding as the process unfolds.
