While Nigerian artistes often enjoy seamless experiences performing on international stages, the reverse seems to be the case back home.

On Friday, 3 April, popular Nigerian music star, Crow Uzama, popularly known as Shallipopi took the stage at the Goldberg Golden Fiesta concert in Benin City, welcomed by a massive and energetic crowd that had long anticipated his arrival.

Known for his strong fan base and ability to spark wild excitement, the performance quickly turned chaotic. In the middle of his set, several individuals repeatedly ran onto the stage, disrupting the flow of his performance.

While Shallipopi attempted to manage the situation, his reactions to the interruptions were met with criticism, as some accused him of being too harsh in his clapbacks.

What should have been a memorable night of music slowly turned into a tense exchange between artiste and audience.
It raises a bigger question about crowd control, respect for performers, and the structure of live events in Nigeria.

Truly, if artistes cannot feel safe or respected on stage, then the energy that fuels these performances may start to fade.

Benin City, the love is loud, no doubt, but after this experience, will Shallipopi be willing to return?
