Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have foiled a planned mass abduction by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, rescuing over 150 civilians in a high-stakes operation ahead of the Easter period.

The incident occurred at about 2:50 p.m. on March 30, 2026, when troops deployed at Dutse Kura under Sector 2 came under attack while escorting civilians along the Buratai–Kamuya axis.

While engaging the terrorists, surveillance assets detected insurgents attempting to abduct a large number of civilians, including men, women, and children, using about 17 vehicles into the bush.

In a swift and coordinated response, a Quick Response Force reinforced the troops, repelled the attack, and launched a pursuit toward the Mangari area. The pressure forced the terrorists to abandon both the abducted civilians and their vehicles.

All rescued victims, estimated at over 150, were safely recovered and moved to Buratai for onward reunification with their families.

However, during the pursuit, troops encountered an improvised explosive device along the Bula Zarma–Mangari axis, leaving five personnel severely injured. The wounded soldiers were promptly evacuated for specialist medical treatment.

Military authorities said the operation underscores the resolve of OPHK to deny terrorists freedom of action and ensure the protection of vulnerable populations across the North East.

The successful rescue also highlights the troops’ vigilance, rapid response capability, and sustained operational presence in the theatre, particularly as the Easter season approaches.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing stabilisation efforts, protection of civilians, and relentless pressure on terrorist elements operating in the region.
