Week seven of the Nathaniel Idowu-Ajegunle U-14 League delivered drama as Bright Future Football Academy defeated Ajegunle United Sporting Club 2–1 in a keenly contested local derby.
The match was played at the Nathaniel Idowu Pitch in Ajegunle-Apapa, Lagos, yesterday.
Onyejiuwa Chidalu opened scoring in the 15th minute after Ajegunle goalkeeper Anyanwu Divine spilled the ball, handing Bright Future an early advantage.
Ezike Favour doubled the lead in the 25th minute with a superb free kick, giving Bright Future a comfortable two-goal cushion at half-time.
Ajegunle United mounted strong pressure after the break and reduced the deficit through Joshua Vincent’s 36th-minute strike.
In spite of dominating possession with 55 per cent and recording six shots on target against Bright Future’s four, Ajegunle United failed to find an equaliser.
The victory lifted Bright Future to fourth place, intensifying the race for a top-four finish and a share of the N500,000 prize.
Fortune Football Academy continued their impressive form with a commanding 4–0 victory over Coal City Football Academy.
Gbemigbade Waris opened scoring in the 2nd minute before Odeshola Odunayo struck twice in the 28th and 38th minutes.
Lot Heritage added another goal in the 35th minute as Fortune dominated possession with 60 per cent and eight shots on target.
In another encounter, Strong Dove Football Academy edged Pure Talents Football Academy 3–2 in a closely fought contest.
Francis John’s own goal in the 31st minute and Goodluck Muogbo’s brace in the 37th and 40th minutes secured victory for Strong Dove.
Pure Talents scored through Fidelis Prosper in the 12th minute and Igbowu Adeleke from a 54th-minute penalty.
Both teams shared possession evenly, but Strong Dove’s clinical finishing proved decisive in the five-goal encounter.
In the final match, Moree Wins Foundation Football Academy defeated Divinely Blessed Football Academy 2–1 to record back-to-back victories.
Chidera Frederick scored in the 5th minute, while Oyebanji Fawaz added another in the 20th minute for Moree Wins.
Akeem Ismaila reduced the deficit in the 50th minute, but Moree Wins held firm with 55 per cent possession and five shots on target.
Week seven highlighted the league’s growing competitiveness as teams intensified their push for momentum in the race for a top-four finish.
