During the introductory remarks on a recent episode of the Honest Bunch Podcast, popular OAP Chukwudi Ezugwu also known as Husband Material found himself receiving an unexpected masterclass in proper introductions.
His guest for the episode was veteran Nollywood actress and gospel minister Eucharia Anunobi. In an attempt to introduce her, the host mentioned her name, her maiden name, and the surname of her former husband, Charles Ekwu.
What appeared to be a harmless introduction quickly opened the door to a lesson in identity, titles, and respect.
Eucharia Anunobi took a moment to calmly correct the host. According to her, if she must be introduced, it should be done properly. She expressed concern that Nigerians often have the habit of watering down the achievements of their own people, sometimes forgetting to acknowledge the hard work that comes with certain titles.
The actress also clarified that the doctorate title she bears is not honorary. She explained that she studied and worked hard to earn it. In addition to that academic accomplishment, she reminded the room that she is an ordained minister of the gospel. For that reason, she stated that the proper way to introduce her would be Apostle, Dr. Eucharia Anunobi.
There was also a personal correction. The name Ekwu, she pointed out, is no longer part of her identity. The union that once brought that surname into her life has long been dissolved, and she made it clear that it should no longer be attached to her name.
To his credit, Husband Material accepted the correction with admirable composure. The moment resembled a polite serving of humble pie, which he received with a smile and a nod.
Reactions online arrived almost immediately. Some Nigerians argued that the growing obsession with titles has become unnecessary and, in some cases, excessive. Others applauded the actress, insisting that teaching people how to address you is not arrogance but a firm declaration of self respect.
