The Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Army, Rep. Aminu Balele (APC-Katsina) has reaffirmed the commitment to improving equipment, logistics, welfare packages and critical infrastructure for troops of the Nigerian Army.
Balele gave the assurance on Monday at the 2026 budget defence session organised by the committee in Abuja.
He said that the 10th Assembly is ready to leverage the gains of the tax reforms and every legitimate legislative avenue to provide the Nigerian Army with more equipment.
“Going going forward, the National Assembly Joint Committee on Army is determined to leverage on the gains of the recent tax reforms particularly on the area of procurement and eventually legislative avenue to improve equipment, logistics, welfare packages and critical infrastructure for our troops.
“In strong collaboration with our counterparts in the Senate, we will keep our oversight and budget approaches responsive and forward-looking so the 2026 budget will enhance the operational capacity of the Nigerian Army and assist in addressing some of our security challenges,” he said.
In his remarks, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Army, Sen. Abdulaziz Yar’Adua ( APC- Katsina) said the allocation does not reflect the State of Emergency declared on the security sector by President Bola Tinubu.
He said that the it is the view of the National Assembly that a supplementary budget be sent to the assembly to boost the allocation for the Army to meet the demands of the State of Emergency.
