Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has appointed the Alara of Ilara, Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, as the sixth Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU).
The announcement was made in a statement from the Registrar and Secretary to the Council, Emmanuel Fanu, on Sunday in Lagos. The appointment, effective February 13, is for a single five-year term, renewable once, in accordance with the provisions of the LASU Law 2004.
“The appointment is made pursuant to Chapter L69, Volume 7, Schedule 1 of the LASU Law 2004, which empowers the visitor to appoint the chancellor of the university,” Fanu said.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, congratulated the new chancellor, expressing optimism about his leadership in advancing LASU’s vision and mission.
The appointment follows the completion of the tenure of Prof. Gbolahan Elias, who served as the fifth Chancellor. Fanu noted that the Lagos State Government and the university community appreciated Elias’ contributions and the dignity with which he represented the institution during his tenure.
Oba Ogunsanwo’s selection as Chancellor is expected to strengthen the university’s governance and support its strategic objectives, reflecting the state government’s commitment to institutional development and academic excellence.
The university community has welcomed the appointment, anticipating an active and visionary chancellorship that will foster growth, engagement, and national recognition for LASU.
