The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has tasked the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji, to continuously align its training curriculum with Nigeria’s evolving national security realities to enhance operational effectiveness and inter-agency synergy.
Shaibu gave the charge yesterday in Abuja while receiving the Commandant of AFCSC, AVM Alfred Shogbanmu, at the Army Headquarters.
The acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, made this known in a statement yesterday in Abuja.
The COAS commended the college for its pivotal role in producing highly competent officers for the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
He said that the nation’s increasingly complex and dynamic security environment demanded proactive and adaptive professional military education.
Shaibu said emerging threats and the establishment of a new Western Theatre Command underscored the need for future-oriented training that reflects operational realities and strengthens joint planning and execution across the services.
He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to supporting AFCSC through infrastructure development and capacity enhancement.
He described the College as a critical engine for grooming staff officers whose professionalism directly influences command, control and coordination nationwide.
The army chief also praised the quality of graduates produced by the institution, stressing their strategic importance to national defence and internal security operations.
In his remarks, Shogbanmu expressed appreciation for the sustained support of the Nigerian Army, particularly in the establishment of a simulation centre and the rehabilitation of key facilities, which he said had significantly improved training outcomes and learning conditions.
He assured that AFCSC would continue to refine its academic and professional programmes in line with contemporary security demands while deepening inter-agency cooperation.
