Is the Customer Still Always Right in the Age of Online Vendors? Inside Deka George’s Legal Battle

Years ago, the saying “the customer is always right” was treated like a sacred business commandment. These days, however, it appears to have quietly joined the list of extinct principles, right alongside courtesy and accountability.
The latest proof of this evolution (or regression) features popular online hair vendor Rainbow Hairs and social media sensation Deka George. What began as a routine online purchase has now spiralled into a courtroom-worthy drama, complete with petitions, public outbursts, and a lawsuit.

Deka had ordered a few pieces of human hair from Rainbow Hair, only to return online with complaints that the product delivered fell painfully short of both its price tag and the glossy promises that accompanied its advertisement. According to her, the hair simply wasn’t giving what it was supposed to give.

After allegedly reaching out to Rainbow Hair repeatedly, refund requests in hand and patience wearing thin, Deka did what many aggrieved customers do in the age of social media: she went public. From online rants to on-ground market visits, she openly called out the brand, urging potential customers to think twice before patronising the vendor.

Interestingly, the plot thickened in the first week of January 2026. In a surprising twist, the once-bold and fearless customer re-emerged online in a much more sober tone, this time asking for financial support. The reason? A lawsuit. Rainbow Hair had slammed Deka George with a defamation suit, filed in Lagos, while Deka herself resides in Abuja.

  • Now stripped of bravado and trading outrage for vulnerability, Deka explained that the funds would help cover transportation, short-term accommodation, and legal fees as she prepares to face the case head-on.
So, the question lingers, echoing louder than ever in Nigeria’s digital marketplace: in this dispensation, is the customer still always right… or just always at risk?
