Just when Nigerians thought 2025 was finally rounding off without another celebrity saga, the 13th of December arrived; loud, dramatic, and unapologetically Nigerian.
Doris Ogala, Nollywood actress, who took to her Instagram page not to promote a movie, not to sell skincare, but to unload what can only be described as a deeply emotional outcry that shook social media. In a season where carol services and end-of-year thanksgiving dominate timelines, Doris chose truth, or at least her version of it.
According to the actress, she had been in a romantic relationship with Pastor Chris Okafor, the founder of Grace Nation Church. The timing of her revelation was hardly coincidental. The pastor had just posted a glossy engagement video announcing his intention to marry his fiancée. For Doris, that video was apparently the final straw.
In a now-viral video, the actress cried out:
“You people should go and tell Pastor Chris Okafor he cannot marry. Who will he leave me for? Since he slept with me, I haven’t been okay. I lost my only brother, I got pregnant for him, had a miscarriage, and he lied that I had an abortion.”
It was raw. It was painful and it was uncomfortable to watch.
Doris appeared visibly distraught, tears flowing, voice shaking, as she narrated her alleged experiences with the cleric. This wasn’t the usual Instagram Live drama Nigerians have grown immune to; this felt heavier, darker, and far more personal.
Things escalated when a colleague from the Nollywood industry later shared a disturbing video after checking on her at home. What he reportedly found suggested the actress had attempted to harm herself. At that point, the story stopped being just another celebrity scandal and began to feel like a mental health emergency unfolding in real time.
As expected, Nigerians did what they do best: they went straight to Pastor Chris Okafor’s page for answers. Unfortunately, or conveniently, comment sections had been locked. Silence met outrage, and the internet filled in the gaps with speculation, sarcasm, and heated debates.
For a country that had already survived fuel scarcity, inflation, and countless “he said, she said” celebrity dramas in 2025, this was one saga many felt they did not order, especially not in December.
So here we are again, reminded that in Nigeria, even when the year is packing its bags, drama never truly checks out.
December, we thought we were done. Apparently, we were very wrong.
