The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, on administrative bail after questioning him over alleged fraudulent cash withdrawals totalling N189 billion.

Tambuwal, who served as governor from 2015 to 2023, was invited to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Monday, arriving at about 11:30 a.m. He was interrogated for several hours by investigators before being detained overnight at the commission’s corporate headquarters.

A senior EFCC official, speaking exclusively to KTH Daily, confirmed that the Sokoto senator has been granted bail after meeting conditions. His international passport is said to be with the EFCC as the investigation continues.“He has been released on administrative bail. He met all the bail conditions,” he told KTH Daily.

EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale could not be reached for comment at press time.
