The Management of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, has, in a statement, announced yesterday, the immediate closure of the institution.
This was as a result of protests embarked upon by the students citing insecurity as their grievances.
Students blocked the institution’s main gates after unknown armed men allegedly attacked several hostels on Monday night injuring students and carting away valuables.
The protests became intense as suspected hoodlums tried to hijack it, blocking the Federal highway near the campus.
Police were on hand to fire tear gas and dispersed the crowd which prompted some students to retaliate with stones before being overpowered.
President, Student Union Government, SUG, of the Polytechnic, Haruna Umar condemned the attack describing it as first of its kind in the institution’s history.
” This is students showing their grievances to management and authorities, ” he concluded while speaking to newsmen.
