The Niger State Police Command has arrested a syndicate, who attempted to divert a trailer loaded with 900 bags of cements valued at over N9 million in Minna.
The State Command’s Spokesman, SP Wasiu Abiodun, who disclosed this in a statement, said that the diver of the trailer along with his accomplice attempted to divert the consignment.
“On 5th April, 2025 at about 9.30am, based on credible information received, police surveillance patrol team attached to Bosso Div, Minna intercepted a trailer truck with Reg. No NDG 161 XA.
“The vehicle was intercepted at Garima junction Bosso loaded with 900 bags of cement from Obajana, Kogi State valued over nine million naira suspected to have been diverted,” Abiodun said.
According to the Police, in the course of investigation, the cement truck was supposed to be delivered in Maiduguri, Borno State but unfortunately criminally diverted to Garima Bosso with intent to sell the cement.
“One suspect Abdullahi Basiru of Sokoto State was arrested in connection with the crime”
During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he was a motor boy to the driver of the truck, Ibrahim Yusuf who is at large, that they conspired with one other and removed the truck with intent to sell the cement, abandon the truck and escape before he was arrested.
The suspect was charged to court for criminal conspiracy and theft on 9th April and was subsequently tried and convicted to ten months imprisonment without an option of fine.
Efforts are ongoing to arrest and prosecute the driver at large. The cement truck was released to the company’s representative through a court order.
