Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has denied reports that he dismissed security concerns raised by Borno Governor Babagana Zulum.
In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Rabiu Ibrahim, the minister clarified that he never suggested that people should ignore Zulum’s claims about Boko Haram’s presence in Borno.

He described the reports as sensational and misinformation, aimed at creating public confusion and diverting attention from the government’s efforts to address security challenges. Idris noted that while the government has made progress in restoring peace and security in many parts of the country, some areas still face security challenges.
He acknowledged the ongoing efforts of the military and security forces, as well as investments in security hardware and intelligence.

The minister emphasized that the Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, is committed to eradicating terrorism and banditry nationwide.
He called on all stakeholders, including state governments, to continue partnering with the government to bring lasting peace to affected communities.

“We urge media platforms to uphold the ethics of responsible journalism by avoiding sensationalism and publishing only verified and accurate information.
“The task of rebuilding peace and security in our nation is a collective one that must not be undermined by reckless and irresponsible reportage,” he said.
