Head Coach of Abakaliki FC, the 2025 President Federation Cup giant killers, Ifeanyi Onyedika has said that his young side is not afraid of facing Kwara United in the final of the Nigeria’s most glamorous soccer competition.
Onyedika said results from the preliminaries to the semis have proved that the Abakaliki soccer lords can compete and hold their own against any team despite our NNL status and position on the league table. He boasted that his team is capable of competing against any team.
He stated that his team refused to be intimidated by Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) teams in the President Federation Cup.
“We entered this competition as underdogs, but now nobody can question our ‘giant-killers’ credentials. Yes, we’ve proved we can compete and hold our own against any team despite our NNL status and position on the league table,” he said.
The Rice Boys have successfully eliminated Enyimba, Rivers United, Nasarawa United and Ikorodu City on their road to the final of the competition.
Abakaliki FC defeated Ikorodu City 5-4 on penalties to book a date with Kwara United in the final of the 2025 President Federation Cup.
“I’m very happy, absolutely elated, I’m proud of these players. They gave their best. They held their confidence high, refusing to be intimidated by a so-called ‘Premier League’ team. They stood their ground firmly,” Onyedika said.
“Now we’re in the Federation Cup final in our first season. The Government of Ebonyi State is happy, the good people of Ebonyi State are right now celebrating on the streets because they’ve never experienced this moment before..”
