Former Big Brother Naija housemate Alex has spoken about self bullying, warning against the habit of constantly making oneself the subject of jokes or defining personal identity by insecurities.

In a post shared on social media, Alex said she was often the first person to make fun of herself before anyone else could, but stressed that there should be limits to how people speak about themselves.

“I’m one person that will mostly drag myself before anyone does, but there are limits,” she wrote.

She explained that acknowledging personal insecurities does not mean allowing them to become the defining part of one’s identity. She also noted that being able to laugh at oneself should not translate into constantly making oneself the punchline.

“Bullying isn’t always someone else making fun of you. Sometimes, it’s the identity you’ve been conditioned to assign yourself or you’ve even just chosen to live by,” she added.
