American singer, actress and Rare Beauty founder Selena Gomez has opened up about her struggle with nicotine vaping, claiming the habit changed her voice as she urged fans to avoid it.

The 34 year old star made the revelation in a video shared on her Instagram Story on Sunday, admitting that quitting nicotine had been difficult.

“I’m not going to be able to change my voice,” Gomez said. “I vaped nicotine a lot. Nicotine is so hard to quit, and I think I just wanted to say, if you’re going through it, or if you’re even trying to vape, it’s just not worth it. It’s so stupid, and it’s changed my voice.”

Gomez acknowledged that some fans might no longer enjoy listening to her voice, adding that they were free to stop listening if they felt that way.

Despite the difficulty of quitting, the singer expressed hope that others struggling with nicotine dependence could overcome it.

“But I know if you are going through something, you can get through it too,” she said.

Her comments come months after fans questioned changes in her voice during an Instagram Live session in December. At the time, Gomez said her throat sometimes swelled internally but did not mention vaping.

The singer has also spoken publicly about her health experiences, including living with lupus, undergoing a kidney transplant in 2017 and receiving a bipolar disorder diagnosis, which she discussed in the 2022 documentary *Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me*.

Beyond music, Gomez stars in and executive produces Hulu’s comedy series *Only Murders in the Building* alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short. She also launched her cosmetics brand, Rare Beauty, in 2020.

Her latest disclosure has drawn attention to the challenges of quitting nicotine and her warning that vaping is not worth the potential consequences.
