Man, 32, Arraigned in Court Over Alleged N9.3m Theft in Hotel

A 32-year-old man, Adebiyi Yusuf on Thursday appeared before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court in Isabo for allegedly stealing N9.3 million.
Yusuf, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Ojo Adewusi told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in Jan. 2025 and on Aug. 7 at about 2:00 pm at 1st Point Hotel Imala Elega, Abeokuta.
Adewusi alleged that Yusuf who was the head of operations at the hotel stole funds and materials valued at N9.3million property of 1st Point Hotel and Suites Ltd.
He further stated that Yusuf, who was in charge of hiring cars for customers of the hotel, would instruct them to pay into his personal account instead of the company’s account.
Adewusi said the stolen items included a cash sum of N4 million; an iron steel / bullet proof door valued at N5 million; one industrial ladder valued N170,000.
Other items include; one hilux brake light valued N30,000; one box of operation drilling machine tools valued N150,000.
According to Adewusi, the defendant was asked to give an account of the transaction of the hotel’s finances to which he could not account for.
“This act of misappropriation of the company’s finances prompted the management to report the case to the police,” the prosecutor said.
The offences contravene the provisions of section 390 (6) and 516 of the Criminal Code Vol.1 Laws of Ogun 2006.
The Magistrate, Mrs R.A Lawal, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties who must be registered bondsmen with the Ogun State Judiciary.
Lawal ordered that Yusuf be remanded at the Oba Correctional Centre pending the perfection of his bail conditions.
She adjourned the case until Oct.7 for hearing.
