First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has sparked reactions online after revealing what she plans to wear more often if her husband, President Bola Tinubu, secures a second term in office.
Speaking at a recent event, the First Lady reaffirmed her support for Nigerian traditional fashion and urged citizens to ensure that younger generations do not lose touch with the country’s cultural heritage.
Remi Tinubu said she loves Aṣọ Òkè but finds some versions too heavy and stiff for regular wear.
“I love Aṣọ Òkè, but it’s too heavy for my head nowadays. Some are so stiff, and they bruise me,” she said.
She then revealed that if President Tinubu wins another term, she plans to embrace bùbá and wrapper more frequently because of their comfort.
“If God brings my husband in a second term, I’ll be wearing a bùbá and wrapper because it’s very soft, breathable cotton,” she said.
The First Lady also praised African attire, saying it often attracts admiration whenever she wears it, including during international engagements.
“There’s nowhere I stand in the world, even the white person is always in awe,” she added.
She further urged Nigerians to preserve their cultural identity and ensure that younger generations continue to appreciate traditional clothing.
“We shouldn’t let our children forget that,” she said.
