Popular Asaba-based content creator, Ifeanyi Ogbonna, widely known as “Odogwu of Asaba,” is at the centre of a growing controversy after the Delta State Police Command arrested him over allegations connected to the death of a 20-year-old woman, Favour Agbro, whose suicide has sparked outrage on social media.

The case, which has dominated online conversations, has taken several twists, with police investigating allegations of rape, resurfaced videos of the skit maker, and leaked chats suggesting that financial issues may have played a significant role in the tragic events that culminated in the young woman’s death.

According to the Delta State Police Command, Favour travelled to Asaba on 1 June 2026, after Ogbonna allegedly invited her to participate in a content creation training programme he had advertised on his social media platforms.

Police said the young woman was lodged in a hotel where she alleged she was sexually assaulted after resisting the suspect’s demand for sex.

Investigators disclosed that before her death, Favour recorded a video in which she narrated her ordeal, alleging that she was raped several times despite her resistance. According to police, she later returned home traumatised and informed her parents about the incident.

Authorities said the emotional distress eventually drove her to consume a poisonous substance in what has been described as suicide. She later died despite efforts to save her.

However, sources familiar with the investigation said detectives are also examining subsequent chats exchanged between the deceased and the suspect, which reportedly suggest that disputes involving money may have contributed to the circumstances that ultimately led to her taking her own life. Police have yet to draw any conclusions from the conversations as investigations continue.

Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer in Delta State, SP Bright Edafe, said Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi ordered an immediate and comprehensive investigation upon receiving a petition from the deceased’s family.

Edafe said operatives of the Area Command in Effurun promptly launched an investigation, leading to Ogbonna’s arrest.

He added that the suspect has made statements to investigators while further inquiries continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case.

A video that has since gone viral on social media shows the content creator kneeling before Favour’s parents inside a police facility, tearfully pleading for forgiveness.

“Please forgive me. This was a big mistake, and I am ready to give up everything,” he was heard saying.

The Commissioner of Police assured the bereaved family that the investigation would be thorough, transparent, and impartial.

The tragedy has also reopened scrutiny of Ogbonna’s online persona, with several old videos resurfacing on social media in which he allegedly suggested that invitations for women to visit him were primarily for sexual encounters. While the clips have fuelled public outrage, the police have not established any connection between those videos and the current investigation.

The case has generated heated reactions online, with some social media users making additional allegations about the content creator’s past conduct. Those claims remain unverified and are not part of the police investigation.

Ogbonna remains in police custody as investigations continue. No court has found him guilty of any offence, and under Nigerian law, he remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by a competent court.
