Nollywood actor Kunle Remi has blamed indiscriminate waste disposal by residents as a major factor behind the recurring flooding experienced across Lagos during the rainy season.

Reacting to the heavy rainfall that recently submerged parts of the state, including Gbagada, Oshodi, Agungi, and Ilupeju, the actor took to his Instagram Story to express frustration over what he described as poor environmental habits.

“Nigerians are dirty people, and that’s why there’s flood everywhere. I saw in the news that Gbagada is flooded; this is no longer a Lekki thing. Agungi, Ilupeju is flooded,” he wrote.

Kunle urged residents to stop dumping refuse in drainage channels, arguing that blocked drains contribute significantly to flooding whenever heavy rains occur.

“We are dirty people; let’s stop throwing trash in drainages, stop blocking the drainages. We are not animals. Speak up against it; if you see someone doing it, correct them. Why won’t it flood?” he said.

The actor warned that the situation is becoming increasingly severe, joking that Lagos residents may soon have no choice but to drive trucks or SUVs to navigate flooded roads.

“It’s getting worse. At a point, everyone in Lagos will soon start getting trucks. Try and get a truck or SUV,” he added.

While acknowledging the worsening floods across the state, Kunle stressed that individual responsibility is essential, urging Nigerians to discourage indiscriminate waste disposal and adopt cleaner environmental practices.
