Nollywood actor turned politician Desmond Elliott has opened up on why he ventured into politics, saying one of his goals was to prove that public service can be done without stealing or diverting government funds.

The Lagos lawmaker made the remarks during an appearance on *The Morayo Show* hosted by Morayo Afolabi Brown, where he spoke about his approach to politics and public office.

According to Elliott, his inability to casually part with large sums of money is tied to the fact that he does not enrich himself through politics.

“Honestly, I can only just say, I will look for one millionaire to donate to you. I don’t know where I will get the money from because my own kind of politics, I don’t steal,” he said.

Elliott, who represents Surulere Constituency at the Lagos State House of Assembly, said his decision to join politics was partly driven by a desire to show that it is possible to participate in governance without engaging in corruption.

He added that politics, in his view, is not about religion or labels, but about personal values and what an individual chooses to represent.

“Politics has nothing to do with a Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Confucianist or whatever. It’s just what you sell. And that’s the idea,” he said.

The lawmaker also revealed that he marked ten years in politics last year, alongside ten years in his Christian faith, stressing that he has not had to compromise his beliefs to remain active in public office.
