Comedian and Delta State Special Assistant on New Media, Freedom Atsepoyi, popularly known as Mr Jollof, has criticised the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, over a viral video showing him carrying out an impromptu inspection of policemen stationed on the roadside.
The video, which made rounds online, showed the police commissioner stopping to check officers on duty in a move said to be aimed at confirming compliance with the Inspector General of Police’s directives.
Reacting to the footage, Mr Jollof argued that the public display appeared more like an attempt to gain social media attention than a genuine effort to address issues within the force.
According to him, the inspection came across as humiliating to the officers involved, rather than supportive or corrective.
He claimed the commissioner focused on embarrassing the policemen on camera without showing concern for the conditions they were working under.
Mr Jollof pointed out that some of the officers appeared poorly dressed, while one of them visibly had scars from a surgery, yet the commissioner allegedly showed no empathy during the inspection.
“Their uniforms were bad, one of the policemen still had scars from surgery, but the CP didn’t sympathise with them. This is not a good job,” he said.
