Singer and media personality Charly Boy has sparked conversation after opening up about the realities of long-term marriage, admitting that staying with one partner for nearly five decades can become boring.
Speaking during an interview on Yanga 89.9FM, Charly Boy said marriage requires constant management and intentional effort, regardless of how long a couple has been together.
“All marriages are management, including my own,” he said.
The entertainer explained that he and his wife deliberately keep their disagreements private, insisting that involving outsiders in marital issues often does more harm than good.
“My wife and I, we don’t talk to Nigerians about our quarrels. They won’t fix the quarrel,” he said.
Reflecting on his 48-year marriage, Charly Boy described the experience as repetitive at times, comparing it to eating the same meal for years.
“I have been married to one woman for 48 years, it is very boring. Imagine eating same Egusi for years, it’s boring now,” he said.
He added that familiarity in long-term relationships can naturally reduce excitement over time, but suggested that commitment often means learning to live with the realities of that familiarity.
“The devil you know is better than the angel you don’t know,” he added.
Charly Boy also spoke against infidelity, warning that cheating damages trust in relationships. However, his remarks on long-term commitment and boredom have since sparked mixed reactions online, with some agreeing that honesty about marriage is necessary, while others questioned his choice of words.
