Former Super Eagles handler Gernot Rohr has expressed anger at the absence of the Super Eagles and their top stars at the 2026 World Cup.
The Super Eagles crashed out to DR Congo at the continental playoffs.
Commenting on the performance of African representatives at the global soccer show, Rohr said he was imptessed with the progress African teams have made the world stage, but expressed regret the Super Eagles did not qualify for the biggest ever World Cup.
“We (African teams) are now on the same level as European teams, but we must also consider how Nigeria hasn’t participated since 2018,” he said.
“Nigeria should have been playing as well. I believe this is because when we faced them in the qualifying group stage, even though they had great individual players with immense quality, they simply didn’t play like a team early on and dropped too many points.
“It is truly a pity that major players like Osimhen, Chukwueze, and Lookman are not here to be seen. For me, it’s a shame,” Rohr said.
