British actor Idris Elba has been formally knighted by King Charles III during a ceremony held at Windsor Castle, becoming Sir Idris Elba.

The award was presented on Tuesday as part of a special investiture ceremony attended by several prominent figures recognised for their contributions to society.

According to reports from the BBC and Sky News, the 53 year old was honoured in the New Year Honours list for his services to young people.

The knighthood officially confers on him the title “Sir Idris Elba,” placing him among a distinguished group of individuals recognised for public service and impact across different sectors.

King Charles III, who carried out the investiture, has continued the tradition of recognising notable contributions to national life through the honours system.
