Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has rejected claims of recurring banditry in Abuja, insisting that the nation’s capital remains secure despite isolated criminal incidents.

Speaking on Monday during an inspection of ongoing projects in the city, Wike acknowledged that cases of crime do occur but said reports suggesting widespread banditry are exaggerated.

He maintained that security agencies are on top of the situation and have been responding effectively to threats, noting that recent incidents, including kidnappings in areas such as Bwari, were swiftly handled with victims rescued.

The minister stressed that no city in the world is completely free of crime, including those in developed countries, and urged Nigerians to put security challenges in proper perspective.

Wike commended the efforts of security personnel, calling on the public to support and appreciate their work rather than focus solely on negative narratives.

According to him, more attention should be given to crimes that are prevented through proactive security measures, rather than isolated incidents that are quickly contained.

He expressed confidence in the capacity of security agencies to continue improving their operations and sustaining safety across the Federal Capital Territory.
