Enugu Rangers claimed a 2-0 victory over Wikki Tourists on Sunday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, extending their push in the 2025/26 Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
The match began with Wikki Tourists pressing high, creating early opportunities in Rangers’ 18-yard box. The visiting side, however, failed to convert their chances, with Rangers’ defense holding firm under pressure.
Rangers broke the deadlock in the 15th minute when Wisdom Ebirim found the net, giving the home team the lead. Veteran striker Godwin Obaje doubled the advantage in the 35th minute, ensuring Rangers went into halftime with a comfortable 2-0 cushion.
The second half saw Wikki Tourists assert themselves in midfield, forcing Rangers deeper into their own half. Despite a few half-chances for the hosts, the scoreline remained unchanged, with Rangers holding firm to secure all three points.
Acting Wikki Tourists coach Bashir Sale reflected on his side’s shortcomings, saying, “Scoring was our problem today; we came to win but the boys were not clinical enough. We will work on our play ahead of the next match.”
Rangers’ Fidelis Illechukwu praised his players for following tactical instructions. “Everybody wants to win the league, but in the end the better team won. We are still within reach to win the NPFL,” he said.
The win moves Rangers to 43 points from 43 games, keeping them in contention as the season approaches its final stages.
