The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has commenced bulk waste evacuation at Alaba Rago on the Lagos–Badagry Expressway, the agency said on Sunday.
The Managing Director, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, confirmed the operation in a statement, noting that carriers, loaders, and personnel had been deployed to clear illegal dump sites and restore environmental standards along the corridor.
Gbadegesin said the clean-up would also cover Okokomaiko and the median around Lagos State University, identified as sanitation priority areas. The operation will progress from Agric Bus Stop toward Mile 2, ensuring a systematic corridor-wide effort to improve public health and road hygiene.
Describing the initiative as part of a sustained sanitation framework, he highlighted LAWMA’s focus on monitoring, stakeholder engagement, public sensitisation, and enforcement against indiscriminate dumping.
The agency called on residents, traders, and motorists to comply with waste disposal regulations and support government efforts to maintain a cleaner Lagos.
The exercise forms part of LAWMA’s broader campaign to improve environmental standards across major transport corridors in the state, reduce health hazards, and reinforce civic responsibility in waste management.
