Not Interested: Ibori Slams 2027 Senate Speculation, Has No Interest in Elective Office.

Former governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori, has firmly dismissed renewed speculation linking him to a possible bid for the Delta Central Senatorial seat in 2027.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Saturday through his media office, the former governor described the reports as “mischievous” and “completely false,” insisting that he has no intention whatsoever of returning to elective political office.

“Let it be clearly stated that this idea was firmly rejected as far back as 2007, even when pressure was mounted by some of his close advisers at the time,” the statement said.

“It is therefore illogical and misleading to suggest that he would contemplate such an ambition nearly two decades later.”

The media office cautioned those spreading the rumours to desist immediately, stressing that the claims have “no basis whatsoever” and are calculated to misinform the public.

While ruling out any political comeback, the statement reaffirmed Chief Ibori’s continued commitment to the development of Delta State and Nigeria through non-elective roles.

“Our principal remains committed to contributing his wealth of experience to the continued development and betterment of Delta State and Nigeria in general, in ways consistent with his long-standing convictions and sense of service,” it added.

Speculation about a possible 2027 senatorial ambition had gained momentum in recent weeks across social media platforms and within political circles, with some commentators linking it to shifting alignments within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State.

However, with this categorical denial from his media office, the rumoured bid appears to have been decisively shut down.
