78 athletes to represent Nigeria at International University Sports

No fewer than 78 athletes and 24 officials are to represent Nigeria at the forthcoming Federation of International University Sports (FISU) Games slated for Germany in July this year.
The President of Nigeria University Game Association (NUGA), Prof. Bawa Muhammad, who disclosed this through the chairman Technical committee, Prof. Musa Garba Yakasai, explained that the selected athletes were drawn from various universities based on their performance, assuring that with the quality of athletes picked at the trials will make Nigeria proud at the sports fiesta in Germany.
Prof. Musa Garba Yakasai further said the athletes will compete in seven events, which include judo, badminton, table tennis, taekwondo, and swimming among others.
He expressed appreciation to the leadership of various Nigerian universities’ vice chancellors for their commitment and support to the executive officials of NUGA, urging them to sustain the tempo towards the overall development of sporting activities in the country.
He, however, hinted that arrangements were in pipeline towards the successful hosting of this year’s NUGA proper in Jos, calling on stakeholders to rally round NUGA and the host university towards a colourful and hitch-free games.
Meanwhile, the management of Northwest University Kano has applauded their athletes, who represented them at the just concluded Federation International University Sports FISU trial in Jos.
The university’s Director of sports, Ahmad Surajo made the commendation shortly after some of the athletes, who won silver and bronze at the final of the games returned to the school.
Surajo described their performances as a sign of more success in near future, charging them to continue to redouble efforts aimed at projecting the image of the university.
