Former Governor of Delta State and Senator representing Delta North, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has said the performance of Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has given him deep personal peace, vindicating the decision he took years ago to support the incumbent as his successor.
Okowa spoke on Monday in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area, during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Uromi Junction Flyover, a major infrastructure project being executed by the Oborevwori administration.
Speaking emotionally before a large audience, the former governor recalled how his choice of Oborevwori was greeted with ridicule and doubt when he first made it public in 2021. According to him, events unfolding across Delta State have now silenced critics and justified that decision.
“I bless God for what I am seeing here today. What is happening in Delta State gives me peace, and that peace is because Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is a good man who continues to do the right thing,” Okowa said.
He explained that although he rarely attends official ceremonies after leaving office, the Agbor flyover project was personal to him and symbolised the broader progress taking place under the current administration.
Okowa commended Oborevwori for sustaining stability, maintaining harmonious relationships across political and social divides, and translating policies into visible projects. He said the spread of infrastructure across the state was clear proof of focused and purposeful leadership.
Reflecting on the period leading to Oborevwori’s emergence, Okowa said his conviction was rooted in faith and vision, even when others doubted him.
“When the vision was born and I spoke about it in December 2021, some thought I was joking. When it began to manifest in 2022, some thought I was crazy. But I knew God spoke. Today, Governor Oborevwori is proving God right, and that makes me very proud,” he said.
Describing the ₦59 billion Uromi Junction Flyover as a landmark project, Okowa said it was one of several transformational initiatives reshaping Delta North. He also highlighted the Ugbolu–Okpanam Road and the Aboh–Akara concrete road as further evidence of the administration’s commitment to balanced and inclusive development.
“Deltans should celebrate this governor. He has a basket of projects, many of which have moved from conception to reality,” he added.
According to the former governor, the sense of peace he now enjoys stems from Oborevwori’s sincerity, leadership style and respect for continuity in governance.
Okowa also used the occasion to commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that while current economic reforms may be painful, they are necessary and already yielding results.
“People may choose not to acknowledge it, but Mr President is engineering the Nigerian economy in the right direction,” he said, pointing to improvements in salary payments, pension settlements and subnational finances as signs of progress.
He praised Oborevwori for aligning Delta State with the Federal Government, describing the move as strategic and beneficial to the people.
“There may be pain at the beginning, but in a few years, the results will be evident, even while he is still in office,” Okowa said.
He concluded by praying for wisdom and strength for the governor and expressing optimism about the future of the state and the nation.
“It is well with Nigeria. It is well with Delta State. It is well with Ika Nation,” he declared.
