NYG: Team Bayelsa in Medal Rush, Rakes in 28 Medals in Day 6

Team Bayelsa athletes have intensified their medal haul, with strong performances at the ongoing National Youth Games (NYG) in Asaba, Delta.
As of yesterday morning, Team Bayelsa had raked in a total of 28 medals in both male and female categories across various sporting events.
In traditional wrestling, Team Bayelsa won two silver medals through Okike Emmanuel in the boys’ 55kg category and Arcbone Pricilla in the girls’ 50 kg category.
In boxing, Great Joseph emerged victorious, defeating his opponent from Team Adamawa, to advance to the semifinals.
In Darts, Favour Ketekete and Grace Akiebomo secured the top spot in the Girls’ 501 Doubles event, defeating Team Plateau in a tightly contested final.
Also in Para-powerlifting, Bayelsa’s Mabiko Cynthia took the gold medal while Dennis Stephen settled for silver.
In swimming, Team Bayelsa’s Gift Obodo showed brilliance, securing her second silver medal at the games in the girls’ 100m backstroke.
While her compatriot, Daniel Udo, took the bronze medal in the male event.
In track and field, Samson Teibowei of Team Bayelsa won bronze in the boys’ 1500m event, while Mikioniso Messiah took the bronze medal in the Long Jump.
Also, Team Bayelsa’s 4x100m relay team, boys, comprising Faye Perfect, Godgift Allison, Godgift Bariweni and Ebimoboere Christopher won a silver medal.
So far, Team Bayelsa has a total of 28 medals, comprising 4 Gold, 6 Silver and 18 Bronze in day 6 of the games.
However, Team Bayelsa’s male and female handball teams were not so lucky, as they lost out to Team Delta in the quarter finals decided last Tuesday.
