President Bola Tinubu has set an ambitious $1 billion trade and investment target as Nigeria takes part in the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama, Japan.
Leading a high-powered Nigerian delegation, Tinubu said the country’s participation is aimed at driving green innovation, fostering industrial growth, and strengthening Nigeria’s position as West Africa’s economic gateway.
Posting on his official X handle, @officialABAT, the President stressed that Nigeria’s presence at TICAD9 is not ceremonial but a deliberate strategy to unlock opportunities.
“At #TICAD9, themed ‘Co-create innovative solutions with Africa’, Nigeria comes with clarity of purpose. Our participation aims to unlock over $1 billion in trade and investment, advance green innovation, expand opportunities for youth, and position Nigeria as West Africa’s hub,” Tinubu stated.
He described the conference as a platform for building long-term partnerships rooted in innovation, trust, and talent.
“This summit is our launchpad for lasting development and global collaboration, anchored on technology, trust, and talent,” he added.
Reaffirming Nigeria’s leadership role on the continent, Tinubu declared: “Nigeria will lead, and Africa will rise.”
TICAD9, jointly organised by Japan and global development partners, brings together African leaders, investors, and multilateral institutions to strengthen economic cooperation and sustainable growth across Africa.
Tinubu’s participation also marks his first official visit to Japan since assuming office in May 2023, underscoring Nigeria’s commitment to deepening Japan-Africa economic relations while attracting significant private sector investment.
