Nigerian content creator Gilmore has explained why he does not readily accept advice from others, using billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote as an example during an appearance on the WithChude Podcast.
Gilmore argued that advice is often shaped by the experiences and circumstances of the person giving it, meaning what works for one individual may not necessarily work for another.
“If Dangote gives me advice, I’ll reject it because he’s giving me advice from his own point of view,” he said.
The content creator further described himself as the king of point of view (POV) in Africa, claiming that he introduced the concept to Nigeria.
“It may work for Dangote, but it may not work for me. I’m the king of POV in Africa. I brought POV to Nigeria,” he added.
According to Gilmore, having different perspectives does not automatically make one person right and another wrong. Instead, he believes people interpret situations based on their individual experiences and the positions from which they view them.
“POV is your own point of view, meaning the place you are looking at it from, so it doesn’t mean another person is looking at it wrongly,” he explained.
He maintained that advice is more likely to be useful when it comes from someone who understands or has experienced a similar situation.
“Dangote can advise me, and it won’t work for me. It is someone that is in the same situation as me that can advise me. That’s why I don’t listen to advice, and at the end of the day, it’s you that will advise yourself,” he concluded.
Gilmore’s comments highlight his belief that personal circumstances should be considered when making decisions, rather than assuming that another person’s successful approach will produce the same results for everyone.
