Coach of Sebioba Football Club, Ibadan, Abdulrahman Gbadamosi has lauded Nigeria’s sports sector and athletes for recent remarkable exploits on the global stage.
He described the developments as a new dawn for the nation’s sports.
In an interview yesterday in Lagos, Gbadamosi said the achievements reflected Nigeria’s sporting potential and urgent need for investment.
He hailed Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, for clinching the AfroBasket championship for the fifth consecutive time, calling it an extraordinary show of consistency and discipline.
“Winning five in a row is no small feat. It shows structure, resilience, and determination. They have made Nigeria proud,” he said.
Nigeria’s athletes have earned widespread acclaim for their global performances, which have brought national pride and demonstrated the country’s growing athletic prowess.
He highlighted emerging stars including tennis sensation Victoria Mboko, WNBA rookie award winner Kiki Iriafen, and Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman, noting the future of Nigerian sports looked secure.
According to him, increasing digital platforms, sports infrastructure, and corporate sponsorships are opening opportunities for athletes and entrepreneurs within the industry.
“What we need now is to sustain the momentum with investments, youth programmes, and accountability in sports administration,” Gbadamosi said.
On football, he pointed to Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen’s €75 million transfer to Galatasaray as proof of Nigeria’s growing influence in global football.
“Osimhen’s deal is historic. It shows Nigerian players are hot commodities in world football, inspiring grassroots footballers across the country,” he said.
Gbadamosi also praised hurdler Tobi Amusan for her season-best 11.18 seconds run at the Racers Grand Prix in Jamaica, describing it as a major boost.
He stressed that Nigeria’s athletes’ achievements have earned them admiration from fans, experts, and officials worldwide, showcasing their hard work and talent.
“Their dedication has paid off, making Nigeria proud. They have won numerous competitions, broken records, and pushed boundaries, sparking celebrations nationwide.
“These athletes are ambassadors for our country. Their achievements highlight the importance of investing in sports development and nurturing young talent,” Gbadamosi said.
