WAFCON: Tinubu Pledges To Honour Falcons as NSC, NFF, NIS, Reps Praise Team

President Bola Tinubu has pledged to honour Nigeria’s Super Falcons after their dramatic 10th WAFCON title win in Rabat, Morocco, on Saturday night.
‎The Nigerian women’s national football team defeated hosts Morocco 3-2 in a thrilling final to extend their continental dominance.
‎An elated President Tinubu called the team shortly after their triumph to express the nation’s appreciation and pride.
‎The call was received by jubilant players in the company of coaches, sports officials, and the National Sports Commission (NSC) Chairman, Shehu Dikko and other top government officials.
‎“We are very proud of you, the entire nation is proud of you, you lifted our spirits, you are a pride to your generation and we are all very happy.”
‎“You will be celebrated and I congratulate all the coaches and the management of the team, including the ministers and officials there,” Tinubu said.
‎He commended captain Rasheedat Ajibade and other players for leading the team with skill and determination throughout the tournament, a testament to the fact that the President watched most of their matches.
Similarly, the Director General/CEO of the National Institute for Sports, Philip Shaibu, has praised the Super Falcons for their sensational WAFCON final victory over the Lionesses of Morocco.
‎The win secured Nigeria’s record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title, achieving the squad’s bold pre-tournament goal, famously dubbed “Mission X.”
‎Shaibu’s congratulatory message was issued on Sunday by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr Ben Ogbemudia.
‎“By this victory, the Super Falcons have once again etched their name in African football history,” Shaibu said, calling the final “thrilling” and inspiring for the continent.
‎The NIS boss, a former Bendel Insurance FC player, commended the team’s technical crew, NFF leadership, and the Shehu Dikko-led National Sports Commission for achieving the ambitious target.
The House of Representatives Committee on Sports has congratulated Nigeria’s national women’s football team, the Super Falcons, following their dramatic victory over Morocco in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
In an electrifying final played in Rabat, the Super Falcons staged a remarkable comeback, overturning a two-goal deficit to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2. The win secured Nigeria’s record-extending 10th WAFCON title, further cementing the team’s dominance in African women’s football.
Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Hon. Kabiru Amadu, praised the team’s resilience and attacking spirit. Amadu who represents the Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency, described the victory as both a national achievement and an inspiration to young Nigerians.

The Super Falcons’ astonishing come back triumph in the 13th Women Africa Cup of Nations final match against hosts Morocco on Saturday will serve as a motivating metaphor for the Super Eagles in their remaining 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches, according to NFF President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau.
‎Gusau was a super-elated figure inside the Stade Olympique du Rabat on Saturday night as the Falcons came from two goals down in the first half to mount a spirited fightback and eventually subdue hosts Morocco 3-2 in a memorable Women AFCON final match.
‎“I am very happy because our girls rose from the ‘dead’, as they say, and fought to victory. This was an extraordinary performance. I congratulate them for their resilience, doggedness, patriotism and the blatant display of the well-known Nigerian spirit.
‎“This victory, and the spirit behind it, will have positive implications for the men in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying series”.
The Super Falcons came from 0-2 down to stun Morocco in front of a packed home crowd.
‎Morocco scored twice in the first half through Ghizlane Chebbak and Sanaa Mssoudy, dominating early proceedings.
‎Nigeria responded strongly after the break with a penalty calmly converted by Esther Okoronkwo.
‎Okoronkwo then assisted Folashade Ijamilusi for the equaliser, turning the tide in Nigeria’s favour.
‎Jennifer Echegini sealed the victory with a stunning late goal from a perfectly executed free kick.
