Galatasaray produced an impressive attacking display to defeat Lille 4-2 in the UEFA Champions League league phase on Wednesday, with Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen scoring a crucial second-half goal to help the Turkish champions secure a memorable victory.
The encounter, played in France, delivered six goals as both teams traded attacking blows before Galatasaray pulled away to claim all three points.
Galatasaray took an early lead in the second minute through Yunus Akgün, who converted a rebound from close range after Baris Yilmaz’s cross created danger in the Lille penalty area.
However, Lille responded almost immediately. Soriba Diaoune levelled the score in the seventh minute after being released by Alexsandro, driving into the box before firing past Galatasaray goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir.
The French side grew in confidence and took the lead in the 39th minute when Diaoune struck again. Set up by Hakon Arnar Haraldsson, the forward found space inside the penalty area and fired a first-time effort into the top-right corner to make it 2-1.
Galatasaray, however, refused to surrender. The visitors restored parity in the 44th minute when Alexey Batrakov rose unmarked to head home Roland Sallai’s delivery, sending both sides into the interval level at 2-2.
The Turkish side seized control after the restart, taking the lead in the 52nd minute when Lille goalkeeper Berke Özer inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.
Osimhen then delivered the decisive blow in the 61st minute, finishing a swift counterattack with a fine first-time shot from mid-range after being set up by Baris Yilmaz. The goal extended Galatasaray’s advantage to 4-2 and capped an influential contribution from the Nigerian forward.
Also yesterday, Como secured a big win against Manchester United yesterday night with a score of 4-1 in the match that took place at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, as part of the third round of the UEFA Champions League matches.
Nico Paz opened the scoring early for Como in the 2nd minute, firing a stunning shot from inside the penalty area. In the 49th minute, Anastasios Douvikas doubled the hosts’ lead by scoring the second goal, capitalising on a pass from Nico Paz.
Nico Paz returned in the 57th minute and scored the third goal, after intercepting the ball from Baliba and penetrating the penalty area, then placing it into the net. Jacobo Ramón completed Como’s four-goal haul in the 76th minute with a header following a cross from the left side.
Manchester United scored a consolation goal in the 91st minute through Joshua Zirkzee, who capitalized on a cross from Amad Diallo.
