Nollywood actress Bisola Aiyeola has revealed that marriage is not a priority in her life, despite considering it an important institution in society.

Speaking on the In My Opinion podcast, the actress questioned why some women should remain in marriages when they are still expected to shoulder most of the responsibilities at home.

“Women are like, you know what? What’s the point if I still have to do everything myself? Why do I have to be tied to this man all in the name of marriage?” she asked.

Bisola noted that some women serve as breadwinners while also bearing children, handling childcare and managing household responsibilities, with their partners still expecting to be catered for.

She, however, clarified that she was not opposed to marriage, saying she would be open to it if the opportunity arose.

“Marriage is an institution, is essential for the society. For me, if marriage does come, I will get married, but it is not the core of my existence. I mean, I’m doing pretty good,” she said.

The actress, who is a mother to a 17 year old daughter, also reflected on the challenges of raising a child as a single parent. She explained that she reminds her daughter that single parenthood should not be something to aspire to because raising a child should not be the responsibility of one person alone.

“Being a single parent and looking after my daughter, I still let her know that being a single parent is not that easy. That’s not what you should aspire to be. Bearing the whole load of raising a child shouldn’t be for one person alone,” she added.

Reflecting on her life as she marked her 40th birthday in January, Bisola expressed satisfaction with her personal growth and current stage of life.

“I turned 40 in January. Yeah. I love me so much, and this is the best times of my life,” she said.
