Former Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) President Emeka Rollas has publicly apologised to Regina Daniels, her mother, Rita Daniels, Senator Ned Nwoko and several Nollywood colleagues over statements he made last November.
Rollas admitted that he regretted the timing and manner of his remarks, which came amid tensions surrounding the AGN leadership and the marital crisis involving Regina and her estranged husband, Ned Nwoko.
At the time, the former AGN president claimed that Regina needed help with her personal life and marital situation. He also advised her mother, Rita, to focus on her daughter rather than pursue the AGN presidency. Rita later lost the election to Abubakar Yakubu.
Reflecting on the controversy in his public apology, Rollas acknowledged that he had handled the situation poorly.
“Looking back, I must honestly admit: I regret the timing, the platform and the manner in which I handled it,” he wrote.
He noted that he had previously maintained relationships with the people he mentioned and admitted that his comments came at a time when a family was dealing with a deeply personal and difficult situation.
“These were people I had related with, worked with and, in some cases, considered friends. More importantly, I made those statements at a time when a family was going through a deeply personal and difficult period. I should not have taken that path,” he said.
Rollas disclosed that a recent encounter with Rita Daniels, during which some people attempted to reconcile them, gave him another opportunity to reflect on his actions.
He extended his apology to Rita, Regina, Ned Nwoko and his family, as well as Okey Bakassi, Charles Inojie, Chinyere Wilfred, Jide Kosoko and other colleagues whose names he had mentioned.
“I sincerely apologise to Mrs. Rita Daniels, Regina Daniels, Senator Prince Ned Nwoko and his family, and to Okey Bakassi, Charles Inojie, Chinyere Wilfred, Jide Kosoko, and every colleague whose name I mentioned. I am sorry,” he stated.
The former AGN president acknowledged that the recipients were free to accept or reject his apology, adding that he was making it because he was no longer proud of how he handled the situation.
“I am human. I made a mistake. I have reflected,” Rollas concluded.
His apology revisits a controversy that brought together tensions within the actors’ guild and the highly publicised personal affairs of Regina Daniels and Ned Nwoko.
