Nigerian singer Mayorkun has recalled a candid piece of advice music star Davido gave him during the early stages of his rise to fame.
Mayorkun shared the story during an interview on the In My Opinion podcast, explaining that Davido noticed how excited he was becoming as his profile and success in the music industry grew.
According to Mayorkun, Davido pulled him aside and advised him not to become carried away by the attention and lifestyle that came with fame.
“He told me about women. He noticed how excited I was getting. He called me aside and said, ‘Calm down. You see all these baddies, you will see them again o, but you will see them moving with the next newer artistes who are at the height of their careers. So calm down,’” he recalled.
Mayorkun said he took Davido’s advice seriously and later realised the veteran singer had been right about how quickly attention in the entertainment industry can shift.
“Thank God I took the advice, because I saw it o,” he added.
The singer’s revelation highlights the perspective Davido offered him as he navigated the attention, excitement and pressures that came with becoming one of Nigeria’s emerging music stars.
