Kano Pillars and Sporting Lagos played out a 1-1 draw in a Match Day 7 fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, yesterday.
The match, watched by a large number of spectators, saw both sides share the points after a keenly contested encounter.
Sporting Lagos opened the scoring in the 45th minute through Valentine Ugwu to give the visitors a 1-0 lead at the break.
Kano Pillars, however, responded quickly after the restart, with Abdullahi Musa equalising in the 49th minute.
Musa’s goal came after a fine assist from experienced midfielder Rabiu Ali, as the hosts restored parity before the match eventually ended 1-1.
The result saw both teams settle for a share of the points after 90 minutes of action.
Speaking after the match, Kano Pillars coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, said his team showed improvement despite settling for a 1-1 draw with Sporting Lagos in the NPFL Match Day 7 fixture.
Ogunmodede said Pillars dominated the first half but conceded from Sporting Lagos’ first chance before equalising early in the second half.
He apologised to the fans and urged them to remain patient, insisting that the team remained contenders for the league title.
“We are sorry to our fans, but they should keep believing. Patience is very important,” he said.
Speaking also, Sporting Lagos coach, Jeffrey Buter, also praised his young players for showing character against Pillars in front of their home fans.
Buter said the result extended Sporting Lagos’ unbeaten run to four matches, adding that the team needed to improve despite its recent away form.
“We are a young team and we need to keep improving. Hopefully, this unbeaten run will give us confidence,” he said.
