As Nigeria celebrates 66 years of independence, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating legitimate trade and strengthening the nation’s economy.
The Comptroller General of Customs (C-G), Bashir Adeniyi, gave the assurance in his special message to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
Adeniyi described the anniversary as a reflection of Nigeria’s resilience, growth and continuous pursuit of a stronger and more prosperous nation.
“From our ports and borders to businesses and industries across the nation, the NCS remains committed to facilitating legitimate trade, protecting our economic space and supporting the growth of the Nigerian economy ,”he said.
On behalf of the officers and men of the NCS, Adeniyi felicitated with all Nigerians on the occasion of the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary and wished the country continued prosperity.
President Bola Tinubu, in his Independence Day speech, said Nigeria’s economy had grown by over four per cent in 2026.
He said both the oil and non-oil sectors contributed to the renewed period of stable growth.
“Oil theft is down. Inflation has fallen substantially from its peak.
“Our foreign reserves have been rebuilt, our foreign exchange market has stabilised and in 2025 this country recorded its highest revenue from non-oil exports in its history, exceeding six billion dollars.
“This is real money being made by real Nigerian businesses,” he said.
