Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday handed Nigeria’s Super Eagles a 3-0 defeat in their second Group L match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Bissau.
The defeat is coach Eric Chelle’s first since taking charge of the Nigerian team.
Franculino Dju opened the scoring for Guinea-Bissau in the 15th minute, curling an effort into the far corner beyond Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.
Nigeria struggled to find a response as the hosts maintained their advantage into the break.
Chelle made two changes at half-time, bringing on Moses Usor and Moses Simon for Frank Onyeka and Taiwo Awoniyi respectively as Nigeria looked to get back into the game.
But Guinea-Bissau doubled their lead through Mama Baldé in the 66th minute.
Nigeria had an opportunity to reduce the deficit late in the game, but Guinea-Bissau goalkeeper Djoco Embadje produced a close-range save to deny George Ilenikhena in the 87th minute.
Álvaro Djaló then completed the victory for the hosts with a third goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
The result takes Guinea-Bissau to six points from two matches, having earlier beaten Tanzania 2-0, while Nigeria remain on three points after their 2-1 comeback win over Madagascar.
The defeat leaves the Super Eagles needing to recover quickly as the qualification campaign continues.
