Scotland’s record try-scorer Darcy Graham is to miss the autumn internationals with a bicep injury.
The 29-year-old Edinburgh winger has 38 tries from his 57 caps but will not have the chance to add to that tally in home Tests against New Zealand, Australia and Japan.
Edinburgh head coach Sean Everitt revealed Graham is facing at least 12 weeks on the sidelines as he recovers from a rupture.
Describing the collision incident as “pretty freakish”, Everitt, said: “That’s not good news for us and not good news for him, especially with the autumn series coming up.”
Scotland continue their Nations Championship fixtures against New Zealand at Murrayfield on 7 November, with Australia and Japan in Edinburgh on the following weekends.
The inaugural series will culminate with a finals weekend at Twickenham on 27 and 28 November.
In the summer, Scotland beat Argentina and Fiji either side of a 42-28 defeat in South Africa, which has Gregor Townsend’s side sitting second behind France in the northern hemisphere standings.
