Mustapha Isah, who is one of the leading scorers in Belgium this season, has said he also wishes to soon play for the Super Eagles.
Isah, 22, has fired five goals for RAAL La Louviere to rival fellow Nigerian Rafiu Durosinmi at the top of the goals race in the Pro League in Belgium.
He has yet to be called up by the Super Eagles, but hopes that his chance with the national team will come.
“Every footballer dreams of playing for his country. I hope that I can achieve that one day,” he declared.
In the meantime, he has been enjoying life in Belgium since his transfer from Norway at the end of July.
“I work hard to achieve these kinds of results. If I stay positive and maintain the right mindset, the opportunities will keep coming,” he told La Derniere Heure.
He said he has not set a personal goals target.
“I want to score as many as possible, but I am not setting myself a specific target. That makes no sense. The most important thing remains the team’s performance first, and then my own,” he said.
His favourite goal so far came last Sunday against Kortrijk. Isah scored the 1-0 and then watched the La Louvière supporters go wild.
“When I see the fans in the stadium so happy, it means a lot,” he said.
“I try to listen to the coach to improve my game and help the team. Things clicked on the pitch pretty quickly.”
However, coach Edward Still has warned that Mustapha Isah will now be a marked man in Belgium.
“He was unknown when he arrived at La Louvière, but that is no longer the case. Our future opponents will be making plans to stop him,” he predicted.
