Nigerian singer Timi Dakolo has advised aspiring celebrities to develop a thick skin if they intend to live in the public eye, recounting how a simple act of kindness towards a young girl once sparked rumours that she was his child.
Dakolo shared the experience while reflecting on the intense scrutiny and speculation that often come with fame.
According to the singer, he was attending an event when he noticed a little girl and decided to care for her. However, his interaction with the child was interpreted differently by some people, leading to claims that she was his love child.
The singer said the experience reminded him that public figures can easily become subjects of rumours, even when their actions are innocent.
Using the incident to advise those seeking fame, Dakolo urged them to develop the emotional resilience required to deal with public scrutiny.
“Grow a thick skin if you desire fame,” he advised.
