“Our Parents Married in Their 30s and 40s Because They Had No Money” — Peller

Nigerian TikToker Peller has responded to critics questioning his decision to marry at a young age, arguing that financial stability, rather than age alone, is a major factor behind when people choose to settle down.

Speaking during a recent TikTok live session, the content creator claimed that many parents encourage their children to wait until they are older before getting married because they expect them to become financially established first.

“Let me tell you something for all of you saying he’s too young to get married. Let me tell you something, the reason your parents lie to you to get to a certain age before you get married, let me tell you the reason behind it, it’s poverty,” Peller said.

He argued that parents often set a particular age for marriage because they believe their children will have started earning enough money to support a family by then.

“They keep telling you to get to a certain age because they know you’d have started making money,” he added.

Peller also questioned why critics were more concerned about his age than other factors he considers important in a marriage.

“You all keep saying, how old are we? Are you counting the age or net worth or how much I love her?” he asked.

The TikToker further encouraged people in relationships to express their feelings rather than allowing age alone to determine when they should marry.

“If you love someone, show it to them,” he said.

He also referred to previous generations, claiming that some parents who married in their 30s and 40s may have delayed marriage because they lacked the financial means to settle down earlier.

“Our parents that got married in their 30s and 40s, it’s because they didn’t have money then. That’s why. It’s poverty,” Peller added.
