Popular Anambra-based cleric, Prophet Chukwuemeka Odumeje, has stirred reactions after alleging that Nigerians publicly defending President Bola Tinubu and his administration have been “bribed.”

In a video circulating on social media, the outspoken preacher criticised the Federal Government over the country’s economic situation, accusing political leaders of placing personal and family interests above the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.

“Anyone you see singing praises for the current government is doing so because that person has been bribed. You are there to manage our resources, not your personal business or your family’s business. These resources belong to every Nigerian citizen,” he said.

Odumeje also reacted to President Tinubu’s recent remark that “there’s hunger before I was born,” arguing that those defending the President were doing so out of self-interest rather than concern for Nigerians.

He further declared that the 2027 general election would give Nigerians the opportunity to determine the country’s political future.

“In 2027, we shall decide if it’s you, governor or senator, whose family owns Nigeria, or whether all of us own Nigeria. We are no longer boys; we are fathers,” he stated.

The cleric also questioned the Federal Government’s continued borrowing, insisting that public officials owe Nigerians full accountability for every loan secured in the country’s name.

“The money you borrow, you borrow in all our names. So you must account for it, because that debt falls on our heads, and on the future of all our children,” he added.

His comments have since generated widespread debate online, with supporters praising his outspoken stance, while others argued that the issues raised reflect broader concerns about governance, accountability and Nigeria’s economic challenges.
