The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has named Abdulquadri Jaiyeola as the alternate captain of the men’s volleyball team ahead of the second phase of the 2026 Comptroller General of Customs (CGC) Volleyball Premier League.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the Head of Sports, Samuel Onikeku on Monday.
Onikeku explained that Jaiyeola brings a wealth of leadership experience, having recently captained Nigeria’s senior men’s volleyball team to qualification for the African Nations Championship qualifiers in Abidjan.
He said: “Abdulquadri Jaiyeola has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership both at the national and club levels.
“His experience and dedication make him a worthy addition to the team’s leadership structure as alternate captain.
“Jaiyeola played for the team in 2021 at the African Men’s Club Championship in Tunisia during a short stint.”
He clarified that Philip Akande will continue as the captain of the NCS men’s volleyball team, while Chris Udah remains the first assistant captain and Princewill Okoi the second assistant captain.
Onikeku also commended the players for their performance during the first phase of the league.
He urged them to build on their impressive showing as they prepare for the decisive stage of the competition.
Onikeku said: “Our men’s team displayed a high level of professionalism, discipline and commitment throughout the first phase of the league.
“I urge the players to improve on that performance and remain focused as we head into the final phase of the competition. We must continue to complement our efforts with hard work, teamwork and consistency if we are to achieve our objectives.”
